WHAT IS MEDICAL INSURANCE AND HOW DOES IT WORKS?

To pay for the plan the employer usually pays a portion of the cost and deducts the remainder from employee's salary per pay period. This is called monthly premium - the specified cost per month one has to pay to receive medical insurance coverage. Some companies however pay for the employee's entire month premium. Employees are also allowed to carry coverage on their spouse and or children.

When an employee / patient goes to the doctor /hospital, the insurance company pays a large portion of the bill or sometimes even the entire bill .The insured person pays nothing at all. It all depends on what type of plan the patient is a member of.

As you know by now, when we speak of billing, we are referring to medical billing does not begin until a patient has undergone treatment from a doctor or physician.

The billings office is then solely responsible for collecting the payments from the insurance companies on behalf of doctors .The doctor and the patient basically have no responsibility during this portion of the process.
